There’s no question that horse showing is expensive, and like most show managers and committees, we work diligently to keep rising costs as manageable as possible. After repeatedly hearing that The Premier is “the most expensive show of the year,” we decided it was time to conduct a formal cost comparison.
Using published data from major circuits across the country, we evaluated what an exhibitor would pay for one stall and entry into one class for the duration of the show (excluding trail and fence classes). The results confirmed what we have long known: not only is The Premier far from being the most expensive show of the year, but among events offering two qualifying shows, The Premier is actually the LEAST expensive.
Furthermore, when assessing overall value, The Premier stands out. In 2025, the show awarded more than $750,000 in total payouts—surpassing every other event included in our comparison. This level of financial commitment reflects our dedication to supporting exhibitors, attracting top-tier competition, and elevating the overall experience for participants at every level.
It is important to note that every show included in this comparison is, in our view, a world-class event. Our purpose in presenting this analysis is solely to dispel the misconception that The Premier is priced higher than other major shows—not to diminish the quality or value of any other event. For this reason, show names have been omitted.
Producing a horse show involves significant expense–financially, in terms of time, and in manpower–regardless of the venue. We encourage exhibitors to keep this perspective in mind wherever they choose to compete. Each facility and event faces its own unique challenges, yet the commitment to exhibitors remains consistent throughout the industry. Organizing and managing a horse show is a significant undertaking, and those who take on this responsibility are dedicated to delivering the best possible experience.
